Shipping out to Sea
Wake Island ATOLL is an isolated air strip with minimal support services. Our crews had to prepare how to handle the remote area, limited facilities and anticipate every need in regards to not only preparing for our portion of the work, but with off time distractions as well. One of the first challenges was loading up the barge in Seattle with anything and everything our crews may need and then watching it chug away from the dock among the waves.

Wake Island - an ATOLL maintained by the USAF somewhere lost at sea between Hawaii and the Horizon, Bixby Electric responded to the call to partner with several contractors to provide upgraded power and airfield improvements for our Boys in Blue! Bixby Electric mobilized out to the island in Mid November 2018 to set up temporary power for the construction trades. We eagerly wait for our return trip to install our portion of the project.
Getting everything packed and ready to go
All work and no play

Tackling the replacement of 79 69kV transmission line poles and installation of new switches for the Town of Springer is no easy task, but our Line Crews tackled it with talent! Bixby Electric is committed to developing the next generation of Linemen who will maintain the highest level of standards for our clients. We utilize the Merchant Job Training & Safety Curriculum for our training program and our future Lineman are looking bright indeed!
Bear Canyon Pedestrian Bridge - City of Albuquerque Project - Performed in partnership with A.S. Horner & Tillett Lighting. We could not describe this project better than the contributors on Pubic Art Archive:
"Programmable, energy-efficient lighting gives language to this alternative transportation bridge. Illumination conducts a dialogue between multiple voices in the landscape: six lanes of whizzing traffic and a fragment of arroyo still teeming with life."
This project brings to Bixby a pride in contributing to renewable energy in Albuquerque. The project brings to light the importance of lessening global dependence on fossil fuels. Featured in Sandia's Technology Park:

Overview – The Eubank Landfill Solar Array is a pioneering solar energy project that transformed a former landfill into a clean energy producing site that relieves energy grid demand in Albuquerque while supporting the local economy. The project with EMCORE Corporation was supported by PNM’s solar incentive program and is the largest commercial distributed power generation project in the State of New Mexico. The site features Suncore Photovoltaics, Inc’s. Gen-3 Concentrator Photovoltaics (CPV) solar systems in combination with traditional silicon photovoltaic (PV) solar panels installed on 17 acres leased from the New Mexico State Land Office. The Suncore CPV modules incorporate EMCORE CPV solar cells developed and manufactured in Albuquerque. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – EMCORE, Suncore, and PNM hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 7 for a 2-megawatt solar array farm at the Eubank Landfill site next to EMCORE’s corporate headquarters in the SS&TP. This special ceremony commemorated the upcoming start of full operation of the solar farm which will supply approximately 20 percent of the power requirements for EMCORE’s Albuquerque facilities. Partners – EMCORE is a leading provider of components and subsystems for the fiber optic and solar power markets. Suncore is a leading company in the China optoelectronics industry and leading provider of CPV solar modules in which EMCORE holds a 40 percent equity interest. PNM is the largest electricity provider in New Mexico and is headquartered in Albuquerque. In addition to EMCORE’s collaboration with Suncore and PNM, the partnerships with Bernalillo County, the New Mexico State Land Office, City of Albuquerque, Folium Energy, and the SS&TP are what brought this project to fruition. Over the years, Sandia National Laboratories has provided their technical support and assistance to help advance CPV technology. The press release in regards to this project can be viewed here:

A smaller scale job, and a few years old, but the setting is so nice we just can’t let it go. Just south of Sandia Pueblo, it has some of the first affordable LED street lights installed in the state.
