Overview – The Eubank Landfill Solar Array is a pioneering solar energy project that transformed a former landfill into a clean energy producing site that relieves energy grid demand in Albuquerque while supporting the local economy. The project with EMCORE Corporation was supported by PNM’s solar incentive program and is the largest commercial distributed power generation project in the State of New Mexico. The site features Suncore Photovoltaics, Inc’s. Gen-3 Concentrator Photovoltaics (CPV) solar systems in combination with traditional silicon photovoltaic (PV) solar panels installed on 17 acres leased from the New Mexico State Land Office. The Suncore CPV modules incorporate EMCORE CPV solar cells developed and manufactured in Albuquerque. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – EMCORE, Suncore, and PNM hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 7 for a 2-megawatt solar array farm at the Eubank Landfill site next to EMCORE’s corporate headquarters in the SS&TP. This special ceremony commemorated the upcoming start of full operation of the solar farm which will supply approximately 20 percent of the power requirements for EMCORE’s Albuquerque facilities. Partners – EMCORE is a leading provider of components and subsystems for the fiber optic and solar power markets. Suncore is a leading company in the China optoelectronics industry and leading provider of CPV solar modules in which EMCORE holds a 40 percent equity interest. PNM is the largest electricity provider in New Mexico and is headquartered in Albuquerque. In addition to EMCORE’s collaboration with Suncore and PNM, the partnerships with Bernalillo County, the New Mexico State Land Office, City of Albuquerque, Folium Energy, and the SS&TP are what brought this project to fruition. Over the years, Sandia National Laboratories has provided their technical support and assistance to help advance CPV technology. The press release in regards to this project can be viewed here:
